In 7.4 - 2007

I met my friend, Jessica, in 7/4. She invited me to perade and fire work in Hills. It was first Independence day in America to me, and it was wonderful time except some situations.
When the perade started, I saw a lot of fun things, espacially, I couldn't forget yellow fire engines in Hills because I have never seen yellow fire engines in Korea. Always I thought that there are only red fire engines in the world, but now I don't think like that. I've changed my mind since I saw the yellow fire engines.
After the perade finished, I met Jed's uncle family. (Jed is Jessica's husband.) His uncle has a daughter and a son, but the daughter's name was Jami. The name was same with me except letter "e". Jami was 10 years old and she was so cute. She gave me necklace candy, and she had curiosity about me. We talked together and watched fire work.
I had a good time with my friends.

My Family~

Today, I talked with my sister, You Jin, in Korea, but I didn't see my parents. I keep in touch with my parents almost everyday, but I can't see my sister and brother everyday because they are so busy in the morning. The time in Korea is opposite from the U.S., so when I'm free, they are studying at school and working at office, or when they are free, I'm stuying at school, so I couldn't meet them for a long time. However, I met my sister with a webcam today, and we talked a lot, but I didn't see my brother. At that time, getting cold, he was sleeping in his room. I warried about him, but he'll be fine next weekend. I took this picture end of last year before I came to the U.S.. I want to meet my family without a webcam.

I did do something on Sunday......

Top : with Tzu Wen
Bottom : my room

I invited Tzu-Wen, who is from Taiwan, on Sunday. Actually, we met because of our homework, but I think we just did our homework for 30 minautes, and then we talked, watched the TV and ate dinner for 4 hours. Tzu Wen told me, my room is so comfortable. I agreed with her. We cooked pasta for dinner. It was very very delicious, but I thought the pasta was too little. After dinner, I introduced Tzu Wen to my parents, in Korea, with a webcam. My parents gladed to meet her, also Tzu Wen did. Tzu Wen said my parents is so pretty and hansom. This is a reason that I'm pretty. HaHa.

Winter and Summer in IOWA

In Winter-MinKyung (Jamie), James (from Taiwan), Moon (from Korea)
아이오와의 겨울 - 나, 제임스, 문성오빠

In Spring - River Festival, with Hawkeye
아이오와의 봄 - 강가축제날 독수리와.

These days, English is a very important language in the world, so it is principal in Korea, too. If you can speak, hear and read English well, you can work at a big company or you can enter a good company easier than people who don’t. This reason makes people have to learn English, so a lot of Koreans want to study in the U.S.A. for English. I’m one of the people who wants to study English and work at a good company, so I chose the U.S.A. for my future. The U.S.A. is a huge country everybody knows, but I came to Iowa City. The reason I came here is that my mother’s friend who is really close to my mother like a family lives in Iowa City. My mother’s friend said, “Iowa City is so safe and silent city, so if Jamie wants to study in the U.S.A. choose here.” There wasn’t any choice for me.
Anyway, I came here about 6 months ago, so it was winter. I was very cold, so when I arrived at home, I couldn’t remember what I learned at school. Iowa City’s weather made my brain frozen. In addition, I had many problems with speaking and hearing in English, but the weather made my problems harder and harder, because my mouth and ears were frozen, too. I didn’t want to go outside at that time, so I thought, ‘Iowa is a boring city. I can’t do anything here because of the weather. This is my memory of last winter in Iowa City.
However, these days I’m pretty much happy because I love summer. I can do a lot of things outside. I can watch concerts, walk around the park and meet my friends, even though I can study harder than winter. Of course you know the reason. The reasons are summer is hot, so my brain, mouth and ears are waking up all the time. I thought again, ‘Iowa City is very peaceful, silence and sometimes activity. I love Iowa City in summer.’
The language, customs and foods are not a big problem to me, but the winter is a big problem. Actually, I’m worrying about next winter coming again.

Trip to beach

I went to the Chu-Am beach about 3 years ago with my 7 friends by bus in Korea. We reserved a motel only 2 days. We played many games in the water, and we borrowed two tubs at the market. Also, We massaged with sand, and took a lot of pictures on the beach. We climbed a little mountain near the beach, and we saw the beautiful beach and waves. At night, we ate barbecue and drank beer. Also, we talked together about anythings, like our futures, our past times and others. The last day we climbed the little mountain again because we wanted to say good-bye to the beach, and someone said, "I want to stay here one more day." so some friends agreed to do it. We decided to stay one more day, so we didn't say good-bye to the beach, and we went back to the motel. We dropped our back packs in the room, and then we ran into the water again. At that time, we were very happy, and now it is a wonderful memory to me.

First Impressions of Iowa City

I couldn't look around anything about Iowa City, when I arrived here. It was night at that time, but next day, I could look at Iowa City. Iowa City was very clean and quiet, but the best thing was about traffic. Iowa City had a lot of snowy days in winter, but all roads were always clean from the snow. There are a lot of traffic jams in Korea in rush hour, but here didn't have traffic jams. Also most drivers are kindly, so I liked driver's mind in Iowa City. There were not a lot of cars in here, so air was very clean, and the sky was very clear. When I saw the clear blue sky, also my mind and heart changed like sky. These were my first impressions of Iowa City.
